In recent years, this community has become something unrecognizable to me. Selfishness, greed, and political divisiveness have washed over this once thriving community. I grew up here in what now seems like a different community altogether. Warren County has always been a community of kind, generous people - people who value community, friendship, and neighbors over politics. This has always been a place where people help one another, support one another, and want what’s best for the entire community.

The Warren County Board of Supervisors has level funded our schools for 4 years now. This is not the community support I’ve always known. In past generations, the schools were a priority for this community and still are for most of us. Unfortunately, a small group of individuals from other counties and states have set their sights on turning this once welcoming and friendly community into a place where they want to control every aspect of our lives, including local government, our beloved public library, and our public schools. They have taken control of our Board of Supervisors, which has allowed that government body to create hostility and divide this community.

We cannot sit back and let this hate continue to grow. It’s time to get back to supporting our friends, family and neighbors and the vital resources we all depend upon: fire and rescue, law enforcement, and, most importantly, our schools. The education of our children today determines the future of their lives and our community.

When I was deciding whether or not to run for school board, there were so many factors I took into consideration, but what made me choose to do this was one thought. I can sit back and do nothing and watch my community crash and burn, or I can try to do some good for my community and make a positive change. I hope to show my children what a beautiful place this is to live and how a community can strive for greatness when we work together and support one another.
